Motherhood is not a hobby

“Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. You do not collect children because you find them cuter than stamps. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in. It is what God gave you time for.”

Elder Neil Andersen, "Children" October 2011 General Conference

We believe in children

"It is a crowning privilege of a husband and wife who are able to bear children to provide mortal bodies for these spirit children of God. We believe in families, and we believe in children."

Elder Neil Andersen, "Children" October 2011 General Conference

Teaching children the joy of honest labor

"Teaching children the joy of honest labor is one of the greatest of all gifts you can bestow upon them.  I am convinced that one of hte reasons for the breakup of so many couples today is the failure of parentst to teach and train sons in their responsibilitiy to provide and care for their families and to enjoy the challenge this responsibility brings.  Many of us also have fallen short in instilling within our daughters the desire of bringing beauty ans order into their homes through homemaking . . .

"[My father] instilled in me a joy and apreciation for honest labor and prepared me for that time in my life when I would have the responsibility of providing for a family.  The principles I was taught by my wise father of honest labor, of not wasting, of discipline, and of seeing a task to its completion were basic to my success."

Elder L. Tom Perry, "The Joy of Honest Labor," Ensign, Nov. 1986, 62, 64

Family Finance

“As part of this general financial caution, we encourage, if necessary, plastic surgery for both husband and wife. This is a very painless operation and it may give you more self-esteem than a new nose job or a tummy tuck. Just cut up your credit cards. Unless you are prepared to use those cards under the strictest of conditions and restraints, you should not use them at all – at least not at 18 percent or 21 percent or 24 percent interest. No convenience known to modern man has so jeopardized the financial stability of a family -especially young struggling families- like the ubiquitous credit card. “Don’t leave home without it?” That’s precisely why he is leaving home.”

Jeffrey R. Holland, Some Things We Have Learned Together, BYU Devotional Address, January 1985

Parenting - guiding our children

“Brothers and sisters, our children take their flight into the future with our thrust and with our aim. And even as we anxiously watch that arrow in flight and know all the evils that can deflect it’s course after it has left our hand, nevertheless we take courage in remembering that the most important mortal factor in determining that arrow’s destination will be the stability, strength, and unwavering certainty of the holder of the bow.”

Jeffrey R. Holland, A Prayer for the Children, Ensign, May 2003

God Helping Parents

“God will send aid to no one more readily than he will send it to a child – and to the parent of a child.”

Jeffrey R. Holland, "A Prayer for the Children," Ensign, May 2003

Share the Fire of your Testimony with your Children

“Keep the fire of your testimony of the restored gospel and your witness of our redeemer burning so brightly that our children can warm their hands by the fire of your faith.”

Boyd K. Packer, The Golden Years, Ensign, May 2003

Protect our nestlings

"There came into my mind the warnings spoken by the prophets. We will not always be safe from the adversary’s influence, even within our own homes. We need to protect our nestlings.
We live in a very dangerous world that threatens those things that are most spiritual. The family, the fundamental organization in time and eternity, is under attack from forces seen and unseen. The adversary is about. His objective is to cause injury. If he can weaken and destroy the family, he will have succeeded.
Latter-day Saints recognize the transcendent importance of the family and strive to live in such a way that the adversary cannot steal into our homes. We find safety and security for ourselves and our children in honoring the covenants we have made and living up to the ordinary acts of obedience required of the followers of Christ."

President Boyd K. Packer, "These Things I Know" April 2013 General Conference

Few things more powerful than the faithful prayers of a righteous mother

"I have come to know that faith is a real power, not just an expression of belief. There are few things more powerful than the faithful prayers of a righteous mother."

President Boyd K. Packer, "These Things I Know" April 2013 General Conference

Teach yourself and your family about Holy Ghost and Atonement

"Teach yourself and teach your families about the gift of the Holy Ghost and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. You will do no greater eternal work than within the walls of your own home."

President Boyd K. Packer, "These Things I Know" April 2013 General Conference
